About Us

Sweet Adelines InternationalWe're the women of the Columbus Chorus of Sweet Adelines International, the first Sweet Adelines chapter in Columbus. The Columbus Chorus has been part of the Columbus musical community since 1958. By the end of the first year, the chorus had grown to 38 members and had three organized quartets.

Throughout the years, Columbus Chorus has competed in their five-state Regional Competition, and has consistently placed among the top choruses within their Region. In 1974 and 1983, they won Regional Competitions, making them eligible to compete at the international level where they placed 10th and 7th respectively. In 1982 and 1983, the Chorus also participated in the Johnny Mann National Choral Festival and placed second and first in the adult choreographed division.

Columbus Chorus takes pride in its reputation as an entertaining chorus and continues to perform at a variety of venues throughout the community. Summer concerts in the park and Christmas performances at special holiday events are some of their favorites. An annual show is presented in Columbus, and with their quartets, they continue to perform at every opportunity in and around the community.

During the summer of 2001, the Columbus Chorus was invited to represent Ohio in the National Festival of States in Washington D.C. While there, they sang for enthusiastic audiences at several places such as the Lincoln Memorial, Mount Vernon, and the Fairfax facility for retired military.

Columbus Chorus loves to sing in the a cappella barbershop style and constantly strives to improve their sound and to achieve those ringing chords which are characteristic of barbershop harmony. Even though it's fun to sing for their own pleasure, the icing on the cake is hearing that warm applause from the audience.
